◈ FIELD GUIDE No. 04 · MFlight · Emirates7 aircraft
Do Emirates planes have power outlets?
Yes — Emirates says it provides in-seat charging on all aircraft, and every economy seat we could document has at least a USB port. The plug socket is what varies. On the newest jet, the A350-900, every seat has a 60-watt USB-C port but only Business has a mains socket; economy and premium economy are USB-only. On the A380 and 777, economy has sockets but not one per seat: two for every three seats on the 777, and on the three-class A380s only some seats in each row get one. Premium economy on the A380 and 777 shares one socket between two seats. Power banks: since 1 October 2025 you may carry one, under 100 Wh, but you may not use it on board or charge it from the seat.

Do Emirates planes have power outlets? Yes — but USB is the promise and the plug socket is not.
USB is the baseline: Emirates says it 'provides in-seat charging on all aircraft', and every economy review we found — A350, A380, 777 — records a USB port at the seat. Most are USB-A; the A350 adds 60W USB-C at every seat.
The A350-900 is the best and the strangest: 60W USB-C and USB-A at every seat, a universal socket plus two 60W USB-C ports and a wireless pad in Business — and no mains socket at all in premium economy or economy.
Economy sockets on the older jets are shared. On the 777 it's two outlets per three seats, attached to the middle and aisle seats. On the three-class A380s, per a 2025 cabin guide, only seats A, B, D, F, H and J have one; a 2023 reviewer in seat G had none.
Power banks: one per passenger, under 100 Wh, in the seat pocket or a bag under the seat — never the overhead bin, never charged from the seat, and never used to charge anything on board. In force since 1 October 2025.

Board it charged.
Every row below is a best guess until you sit down: Emirates swaps aircraft, and the socket that was there last month may not be there today. A bank under the 100Wh carry-on ceiling makes the whole table academic.

Emirates' newest jet has the best USB and the fewest plug sockets. Emirates promises '60-watt USB C charging in every seat', and reviewers find USB-A and USB-C at the screen in every cabin. Business adds a universal socket, two 60W USB-C ports, a 10W USB-A port and a wireless pad. Premium economy has a 60W USB-C port in the seat but, in a 2025 review's words, 'no universal power socket for Premium Economy on this aircraft type' — and economy is USB-only too. A 60W USB-C port will charge most laptops, so bring the cable, not the plug. The newest A350s (28 premium economy seats) add wireless charging in premium economy.

The four-class A380 with a premium economy cabin — the refurbished aircraft and the last deliveries. First has an AC outlet and two USB-A ports on a 2024 refurbished-aircraft review. Business reviews from 2024–2025 (layout not named) list two USB-A ports and a 110V outlet and no USB-C, so USB-C in Business is unconfirmed. Premium economy has USB-A and USB-C in the screen, but the 110V socket is shared, one per pair of seats; a 2025 reviewer charged a laptop from the USB-C port instead. Economy has USB-A at the screen; no source we found says how many economy seats get a mains socket on this layout.

The older A380 layouts (the two-class jets have no First). Every economy seat has a USB-A port; the mains socket doesn't come with every seat. A 2025 cabin guide lists the 110V universal socket at seats A, B, D, F, H and J only, and a 2023 reviewer in seat G found 'no power outlet', and saw the same at C and K. Pick A, B, D, F, H or J if you need to plug in. In Business, a 2024 review found two USB-A ports and a socket that was not universal, needing an adapter for UK or Singapore plugs; the same reviewer says newer A380s have universal ones.

The 777s refurbished since 2023 with a premium economy cabin. The refreshed Business seat has a universal AC socket, a USB-A port and two USB-C ports — one built into the socket panel — at the edge of the shelf, but no wireless pad. Premium economy has USB-A and USB-C at every seatback, with one universal socket shared between two seats. We found no power detail for First on these aircraft. Economy is in its own row below.

The old angled-flat Business seat, with a middle seat in each row. A 2021 review found a 110V outlet and 'Emirates’ older 777s don’t have USB outlets' — crew carry a few converters. These aircraft are being refurbished (53 777s done by May 2026, per Emirates), so this seat is getting rarer, but if you see a 2-3-2 Business cabin with a middle seat, bring a wall charger.

Every 777 economy seat has a USB port at the screen. The universal sockets are under the seats and shared: a February 2026 review counts two outlets per row of three, attached to the middle and aisle seats, so the window seat runs a cable across a neighbour. Some 777s with the 13.3-inch screens also have USB-C beside the USB-A port; a 2026 review of another 777 found USB-A only.
§ 04The power-bank ruleEffective 1 October 2025
Carry it. But you can't use it in the air.
Applies on every Emirates flight. Emirates announced it on 8 August 2025 and it took effect on 1 October 2025; the airline's dangerous-goods policy page carries the same rules today. It mirrors the ICAO direction the whole industry is moving toward — carriage is fine, in-cabin use is not.
01One power bank per passenger, under 100 Wh (roughly 27,000 mAh), and its capacity rating has to be printed on it and readable. Emirates' policy page says a 'maximum capacity of 100 watt hour'; its announcement says 'under 100 Watt Hours' — pack below 100 Wh and both readings are satisfied.
02You may NOT use it on board: 'Power banks may not be used to charge any personal devices onboard.'
03You may NOT charge it from the seat: 'Charging a power bank using the aircraft’s power supply is not permitted.' It boards full or not at all.
04Stow it in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat in front — never in the overhead bin, so crew can reach it if it overheats.
05Cabin baggage only. Power banks are not permitted in checked luggage.
06Emirates' own advice: it provides in-seat charging on all aircraft, but still recommends charging your devices fully before you fly, especially on long flights.

◈ Quirk 01
The newest jet is the one without a plug socket in economy
On the A350-900, economy and premium economy have no mains socket — reviewers find USB-A and USB-C at the screen, and a 2025 premium economy review says outright there's 'no universal power socket'. What you get instead is Emirates' '60-watt USB C charging in every seat', which is enough for most laptops over a USB-C cable. On an A350, pack the cable; the wall charger can stay in the bag.
◈ Quirk 02
On the older A380s, your seat letter decides whether you get a socket
A 2025 guide to Emirates' three-class A380s lists the economy 110V socket at seats A, B, D, F, H and J — not every seat. A 2023 reviewer in seat G found only a USB port, noticed the same at C and K, and ended up charging nothing because the cable would have crossed a neighbour's tray. If you need mains power in A380 economy, choose A, B, D, F, H or J at seat selection.
◈ Quirk 03
In 777 economy, it's two sockets for three seats
The 777's economy sockets sit under the seats, two per row of three, and a 2026 review says they're 'only attached to the middle and aisle seats'. The USB port at the screen is yours alone. Window-seat passengers should plan on USB — or bring a short cable and ask nicely.
◈ Quirk 04
Premium economy shares the socket — or has none
Emirates' premium economy is the cabin where the socket is least generous. On the A380 and the refurbished 777 there's one universal socket for every two seats; on the A350 there isn't one at all. Every premium economy seat does have USB-C, and on the A380 a 2025 reviewer charged a laptop from it.
◈ Quirk 05
Not every Emirates socket is universal
A 2024 review of an older A380's Business cabin found a seat socket that was 'not universal', so a UK or Singapore plug needed an adapter; the reviewer notes newer A380s have universal sockets. Most sockets reviewers describe on the A350, 777 and newer A380s are called universal, but a small plug adapter in your seat bag removes the gamble.
◈ Quirk 06
More USB-C is coming — it isn't here yet
Emirates' next retrofit phase, starting from August 2026 on 60 A380s and 51 777s, promises 'Powerful 67W USB-C charging at every seat' with a new Panasonic screen system, and new Business seats with wireless charging. We have not found a report of one of these aircraft in service yet, so don't book around it. The 777-9, the other long-promised upgrade, won't reach Emirates before 2027.
§ 06The Emirates flight packPower bank first
One bank first, then three backups.
Emirates bans using a power bank in flight, but it also says every aircraft has in-seat charging — and every economy seat we found has at least a USB port. The mains socket is the gamble: none in A350 economy or premium economy, two per three seats in 777 economy, and missing at some A380 economy seats. So the bank is for the gate and the Dubai connection, the cable is for the seat, and the GaN charger is for the sockets that exist.
A 20,000 mAh USB-C bank under 100 Wh is the most useful thing to pack for an Emirates trip. You can carry one but not use it in the air, so its job is everything either side of the flight: the gate, the Dubai layover and arrival.

§ 07Questions about Emirates powerReal answers
Do Emirates planes have power outlets?
Yes, on every aircraft — Emirates says it provides in-seat charging on all aircraft. What varies is the type. Every economy seat we could document has a USB port. Mains sockets are in every Business and First seat we found, but in economy they're shared: two per three seats on the 777, and only some seats per row on the three-class A380s. On the newest jet, the A350-900, economy and premium economy have no mains socket at all, but every seat has a 60-watt USB-C port.
Does Emirates economy have charging ports?
Yes. Every economy seat reviewed on the A350, A380 and 777 has a USB port at the seatback screen — USB-A, with USB-C added on the A350 and some 777s. A mains socket is not guaranteed: on the 777 there are two under the seats for every three passengers, on the three-class A380s only seats A, B, D, F, H and J have one according to a 2025 cabin guide, and the A350 economy cabin has none.
Does the Emirates A350 have power outlets in economy?
No mains socket — but better USB than any other Emirates economy seat. Emirates says the A350 has '60-watt USB C charging in every seat', and reviewers find USB-A and USB-C below the economy screen. Seat-map guides and reviews agree there is no AC outlet in economy or premium economy; Business has a universal socket, two 60W USB-C ports, a USB-A port and a wireless pad. With a USB-C laptop and a 100W cable, you can charge your laptop from an A350 economy seat.
Can I use a power bank on an Emirates flight?
No. Since 1 October 2025 Emirates bans using any power bank on board: you may not charge a device from it, and you may not charge the power bank from the aircraft's power. You may still carry one, under 100 Wh with its capacity rating printed on it, in cabin baggage only. On board it must go in the seat pocket or a bag under the seat in front — never the overhead bin.
Which Emirates aircraft have USB-C?
The A350-900 has USB-C at every seat, rated at 60 watts. On the A380, premium economy has USB-C at the screen. On the 777, the refurbished Business seat has two USB-C ports, refurbished premium economy has USB-C at every seat, the Game Changer First suite has one, and some 777s have USB-C in economy. A380 Business and economy reviews from 2023–2025 found USB-A only. Emirates says its next retrofit phase, from August 2026, adds 67W USB-C at every seat on 60 A380s and 51 777s.
Are Emirates seat sockets universal — do I need an adapter?
Usually not. Reviewers describe the sockets on the A350, the 777 and newer A380s as universal. The exception to plan for is the older A380 Business cabin, where a 2024 review found a socket that was not universal and a UK or Singapore plug needed an adapter. A small plug adapter costs little and covers that case.
Does Emirates premium economy have power outlets?
It depends on the aircraft, and it's shared at best. On the A380 and the refurbished 777 there's one universal socket for every two premium economy seats, plus USB-A and USB-C at each screen. On the A350 there's no mains socket, but each seat has a 60W USB-C port, and the newest A350s add wireless charging. If you need to work on a laptop, a USB-C laptop is the safest bet on any Emirates premium economy seat.
