Yes — KLM flights have power at most seats, and on long-haul the airline puts it in writing: World Business Class has charging points at every seat (110V AC or USB-A), Premium Comfort adds a universal socket plus USB-A and USB-C on most flights, and economy gets a USB-A connection on most intercontinental flights. The best economy draw is the 787 — KLM's own launch promise is a power socket for every passenger — while 777 economy shares one AC outlet per seat pair and A330 economy is USB-only in every source we found. Short-haul is the fine print: the new A321neo is USB-C at every seat, the renewed 737-800s are USB-only, and Cityhopper's older E190s may have nothing at all. And since the ICAO rule of 27 March 2026 you can't use or recharge a power bank in flight, so the seat port is your only in-air charge.

Do KLM planes have charging ports? Yes — official on long-haul; the socket depends on the jet.
The official long-haul baseline: every World Business Class seat has charging points (110V AC or USB-A), Premium Comfort has in-seat power on most flights (110V or USB-A or C), and economy has a USB-A connection on most intercontinental flights. That's KLM's own wording — anything better depends on the aircraft.
Best and worst widebody: 787 economy has universal AC outlets under the seats — KLM's own 787-9 launch line is 'all passengers have access to a power socket' — plus USB-A at the screen. 777 economy has USB plus an AC outlet shared with the adjacent seat, per passenger reports. A330 economy lists only a high-power USB connection, no source documents a mains outlet there, and no A330 ever got a Premium Comfort cabin.
USB-C lives in exactly three places in our sources: the new 777 World Business Class seat (AC + USB-A + USB-C plus a wireless charging option, now across the entire 777 fleet), Premium Comfort on the 777s and 787s, and every seatback on the A321neo. Nothing documents USB-C anywhere else — and no source documents an AC outlet on any KLM short-haul jet.
Power banks: you may carry two, each ≤100Wh (100–160Wh needs airline approval; over 160Wh never), hand baggage only — but using one on board is not allowed, charging it on board is not allowed, and it may not go in the overhead bin.
§ 02Flight cover · Before the boarding passDelays · missed connections · lost bags
Don't fly uninsured.
A delayed KLM connection, a missed onward flight, a bag that lands a day after you do — three things the fare doesn't refund. Single-trip cover is the minimum; annual makes sense past two trips a year.

The retrofit announced in June 2023 covers the entire 777-300ER and 777-200ER fleet: the new World Business Class seat has an AC outlet plus one USB-A and one USB-C under the IFE screen, with a wireless charging option. Premium Comfort (Collins MiQ) has a universal socket plus USB-A and USB-C. Economy kept its older seats in the retrofit: USB below each seatback monitor, with a shared AC outlet — one per seat pair — reported first-hand. Pre-USB-C hardware in the back.

The best economy power in the fleet — KLM's own 787-9 launch line: 'all passengers have access to a power socket.' Reviews map it out: universal AC outlets under the seats (two shared per three seats on the 787-9; reported one per seat on the 787-10) plus USB-A on the IFE screen. Premium Comfort matches the 777: universal socket, USB-A, USB-C. Business follows KLM's cabin-level spec — charging at every seat, 110V AC or USB-A — but no source documents USB-C on this type's business seat, so that cell reads as unknown.

The odd jet out. The 2018 cabin refresh gave World Business Class a 110V socket and USB at the full-flat seats, but the economy spec lists only a high-power USB connection at the 10-inch screen — no source we found documents an economy mains outlet, so that cell reads as unknown; plan on USB. There is no Premium Comfort cabin on any A330 — the type was never retrofitted. It's also shrinking: the first A330-200 left the fleet in June 2026 as A350s arrive.

KLM's A330-300s are generally reported with the same two-cabin layout as the refreshed -200s, but every published power spec we found names the A330-200 specifically — nothing documents the -300's seats separately, so every cell reads as unknown. Like the -200 it has no Premium Comfort cabin, and it stays in the fleet until roughly 2029. Plan on USB at best and check your seat map.

The connector flip. Both cabins fly Recaro seats with a device holder built into the backrest and a USB-C power port at every seat — the holder is there because you bring your own screen. No source documents USB-C anywhere on the Boeing 737-800 — in any cabin.
The renewed Recaro cabins have a USB port at every seat — USB only, no AC. Two catches: sources confirm the retrofit on renewed aircraft, not on every frame, and the connector isn't documented as USB-C, so treat USB-C as unconfirmed. The type is on its way out — the first 737-800 left the fleet in late 2025 as A321neos arrive — but plenty still fly.

Cityhopper's good draw. KLM's official aircraft page says all seats have a USB port, and a first-hand review pins it as USB-A — with no AC power outlets on board. No source documents USB-C, so that cell reads as unconfirmed. Fine for a phone; a laptop flies on its own battery.

The no-promise end of the fleet. A first-hand E190 review found no in-seat power at all — though some seat-map aggregators conflictingly claim USB, so we render it unknown rather than settled — and we found no source on E175 power in either direction. Both types still fly for Cityhopper in 2026, with E2s replacing the E190s. Treat these as no-power flights and board charged.
§ 04The power-bank ruleEffective ICAO rule, 27 Mar 2026
Carry it. But you can't use it in the air.
Applies on all KLM and KLM Cityhopper flights; Air France publishes a matching use-and-recharge ban across the group. It mirrors the ICAO direction the whole industry is moving toward — carriage is fine, in-cabin use is not.
01You may still CARRY power banks — up to 2 per passenger, hand baggage only, never in checked luggage. Up to 100Wh (roughly 27,000 mAh) needs no approval; 100–160Wh requires airline approval; over 160Wh is never allowed.
02You may NOT use a power bank to charge a device on board, and you may NOT charge the power bank itself from the seat's USB port or socket.
03It may not be stored in the overhead bin. Keep it on you, in the seat pocket, or in the bag under the seat in front.
04The rule set matches the new ICAO provisions effective 27 March 2026 — max two banks, no in-flight charging, out of the overhead bins — so expect the same across the group: Air France's official page carries matching rules.

KLM promised economy power in writing — on the 787
When the first 787-9 arrived in 2015, KLM's own press release said all passengers have access to a power socket — a promise almost no airline makes for economy. Reviews back it up: universal outlets under the seats (shared two-per-three on the 787-9, reported one per seat on the 787-10) plus USB-A at the screen. If in-air charging decides your seat, aim for a Dreamliner over a 777 — the 777 shares one AC outlet per seat pair.

The A330 is the odd jet out — and on the way out
KLM's A330s never got the Premium Comfort cabin, and the A330-200's 2018-refresh economy spec lists a high-power USB connection at the screen with no mains outlet documented in any source we found. World Business Class keeps its 110V socket and USB. The type is also disappearing: the first A330-200 left the fleet in June 2026, with roughly one more going per A350 delivery, while the A330-300s hang on until about 2029. If your booking shows an A330, plan around USB.

The King's last 737 flight wasn't the fleet's
The March 2026 headlines about King Willem-Alexander's final KLM 737 flight were about his personal last flight as a 737 co-pilot before transitioning to the A321neo — not a fleet retirement. All three 737 variants still fly in 2026; the phase-out is gradual, starting with the first 737-800 retired in late 2025. Power-wise the handover is a connector flip: renewed 737-800s have USB at every seat, nothing documents the -700s and -900s, and the A321neos replacing them have USB-C at every seatback (nothing documents AC or USB-A on board).

The 2026 twist: you can't top up with a power bank in the air
KLM bans both using a power bank on board and charging it from the seat's port, and it may not be stored in the overhead bin — rules matching the ICAO provisions effective 27 March 2026. You can still carry two banks, each under 100Wh, in hand baggage only. In the air, the seat port in the table above is your only option — which is exactly why the 787-vs-A330 difference matters on a ten-hour leg.

Schiphol is the real charging stop
KLM's hub covers the ban's blind spot: Schiphol's official line is free workspaces with a power outlet at every workstation, plus charging points throughout the terminal. Travellers add the fine print — the gate-area tables with a socket per stool fill up fast, and Pier B has stations with portable loan batteries. The wall sockets are Dutch 230V Type C/F, so if you're coming from outside Europe your travel adapter needs to be in your hand luggage, not your suitcase. With in-flight power-bank use banned, boarding at 100% is the strategy.
§ 06The KLM flight packPower bank first
One bank first, then three backups.
With in-flight bank use banned, the seat outlet is your only air-side charge — and half the fleet doesn't guarantee one. So the bank leads for the gate and arrival, the GaN charger handles the outlets that do exist.
A 20,000 mAh USB-C bank under 100Wh is still the single most useful thing to pack. KLM lets you carry two — you just can't use or refill them in the air. Gate, Schiphol layover, arrival: that's where it earns its place.

§ 07Questions about KLM powerReal answers
Do KLM flights have power outlets?
Yes — on long-haul, at every cabin level. KLM's official wording: World Business Class has charging points at every seat (110V AC or USB-A), Premium Comfort has in-seat power on most flights (110V or USB-A or C), and economy has a USB-A connection on most intercontinental flights. The 787s go further, with a universal socket promised for every economy passenger; the 777 shares one outlet per seat pair. Short-haul, no source documents an AC outlet on any KLM jet: the A321neo has USB-C at every seat, renewed 737-800s have USB, and Cityhopper's older E190s may have no power at all.
Does KLM have charging ports in economy class?
Long-haul, yes. The official baseline is a USB-A connection on most intercontinental flights, and the widebodies mostly beat it: 787 economy has universal AC outlets under the seats — KLM's own 787-9 launch line was 'all passengers have access to a power socket' — plus USB-A at the screen, and 777 economy has USB below the monitor plus a 110V outlet shared with the adjacent seat, per passenger reports. The exception is the A330, whose economy spec lists only a high-power USB connection — no source we found documents a mains outlet there. On European flights, expect USB at best.
Which KLM aircraft have USB-C?
Three places, per our sources. The new 777 World Business Class seat — rolling out across the entire 777-300ER and 777-200ER fleet since 2023 — has an AC outlet, USB-A and USB-C under the screen plus a wireless charging option. Premium Comfort on the long-haul 777s and 787s has a universal socket plus USB-A and USB-C. And the A321neo has a USB-C power port in every seatback, both cabins. No source documents USB-C in long-haul economy, on the A330, or on the 787's business seats — so pack a USB-A cable as the fallback.
Can I use a power bank on a KLM flight?
You can carry one — you can't use it. KLM allows a maximum of two power banks per passenger, in hand baggage only, never in checked luggage: up to 100Wh freely, 100–160Wh with airline approval, over 160Wh never. On board, using a power bank to charge a device is not allowed, charging the bank itself is not allowed, and it may not be stored in the overhead bin — keep it on you or in the seat pocket. The limits match the ICAO provisions effective 27 March 2026, and Air France publishes identical rules across the group.
Does KLM Premium Comfort have power outlets?
Yes. KLM's official line is that on most Premium Comfort flights you can charge with in-seat power — 110V or USB-A or C — and a review of the Collins MiQ seat found a universal socket plus USB-A and USB-C at each seat. Premium Comfort flies on all long-haul 777 and 787 flights; the retrofit across those 54 widebodies is complete. The catch: KLM's A330s never got a Premium Comfort cabin, so on an A330 route the choice is World Business Class or economy.
Do KLM short-haul and Cityhopper flights have charging?
USB at best, and it depends on the jet. The A321neo (flying since September 2024) has a USB-C port and device holder at every seat — no source documents an AC outlet or USB-A on board. KLM's renewed 737-800 cabins have a USB port at every seat, USB only; nothing documents in-seat power on the 737-700s and 737-900s, which also still fly. On Cityhopper, the E195-E2 has USB-A at every seat but no AC, while a first-hand E190 review found no in-seat power at all. Board European flights charged.
Can I charge my phone at Schiphol between KLM flights?
Yes. Schiphol's official line is free workspaces with a power outlet at every workstation, plus charging points throughout the terminal. Travellers add the fine print: the gate-area tables with a socket per stool fill up fast, and Pier B has stations with portable loan batteries. The wall sockets are Dutch 230V Type C/F, so travellers from outside Europe need their adapter in hand luggage, not the suitcase. With power-bank use banned in the air, boarding at 100% is the new strategy.
