Yes — Alaska Airlines has power outlets, and on its mainline 737s they are close to universal: Alaska's Main Cabin page promises "convenient USB and power outlets on all Alaska operated flights", and its First Class page lists power outlets in the Recaro seats up front. So on an Alaska 737 you should find both a plug and a USB charging port at your seat. What Alaska rarely does is name the connector. There are two places it does: the retrofitted 737-800, which its July 2024 retrofit release credits with USB-C charging in First, Premium and Main Cabin, and the 787-9 Main Cabin, whose seatback screen carries USB-A and USB-C. Alaska's June 2025 refreshed-737 article adds only "Many of our aircraft will also be getting USB-C ports" — naming no aircraft type and no cabin — so everywhere else the word is a bare "USB" and the connector reads unknown. Do Alaska Airlines planes have power outlets? Yes on the mainline 737s — the regional E175 and the 717 are where it stops being documented.
The fleet-level promise, in Alaska's own words: the Main Cabin page says "Choose your own Main Cabin seat, with convenient USB and power outlets on all Alaska operated flights", and the First Class page lists "power outlets" in the Recaro seats. Read the qualifier — "Alaska operated" is Alaska's phrase, and the E175s are flown by Horizon Air and SkyWest, so whether it covers them is unstated. Alaska's Premium Class page says nothing about power at all.
Every Alaska 737 aircraft page names an outlet: "seatback power outlets for charging laptops and smartphones" on the 737-700 and 737-900ER, "seatback outlets" on the 737-800, "power outlets for charging laptops and smartphones" on the 737-9 MAX, "power outlets for charging devices" on the 737-8 MAX. USB-C is written down in two places only. Among the 737s, Alaska breaks the connector out cabin by cabin on exactly one type — the 737-800, in First Class, Premium Class and Main Cabin (July 2024 retrofit release). Off the 737s, the 787-9 Main Cabin is credited with USB-A and USB-C. Alaska's June 2025 refreshed-737 article adds one more sentence — "Many of our aircraft will also be getting USB-C ports" — which names neither a type nor a cabin, so it documents no particular seat. Everywhere else the connector is simply unwritten. That is silence, not absence.
Power banks: carry-on only, never checked, terminals covered or in retail packaging. Standard banks are rated 100 Wh or less; more than 100 Wh and up to 160 Wh needs airline approval and is capped at two spares per person. Alaska's battery page — in the snapshot we could read — contains no in-flight use ban and no overhead-bin rule, which is an absence of documentation rather than a documented permission.

The best-documented seat on the airline. Alaska's July 2024 retrofit release names USB-C charging in all three cabins of the 737-800 — the only 737 where it breaks the connector out cabin by cabin. The one voltage figure Alaska publishes anywhere, "110V power outlets, USB charging and seatback device holders at every seat", comes from the July 2026 release about the 737-800s being configured for Hawaii's Neighbor Island routes, so read it as that configuration rather than a fleet-wide spec. USB-A isn't named anywhere on this fleet, so that column reads unknown: bring a USB-C cable and you're certain, bring only USB-A and you're guessing.

Applies to spare lithium batteries and external battery chargers (portable rechargers) on Alaska Airlines flights. The page doesn't separately address Hawaiian-branded flights — Alaska and Hawaiian have flown under a single FAA operating certificate since 29 October 2025 — nor Alaska-marketed flights operated by Horizon Air or SkyWest, which are separate carriers on their own operating certificates. Alaska's rule polices where the battery travels and how it's rated, not when you may switch it on: the page we could read sets no in-flight use ban and no overhead-bin restriction, which is silence on those points rather than a documented permission — crew instructions still override.
01Carry-on only: "You may bring spare lithium batteries for devices such as laptops, cell phones and cameras, in carry-on baggage only. This also includes external battery chargers (portable rechargers) containing a lithium ion battery."
02Never in checked baggage — Alaska cites the fire hazard. A checked bag may contain lithium batteries only if they're installed in the device. Damaged batteries are not accepted for transport at all.
03Watt-hour bands: 100 Wh or less per battery is the ordinary case (phones, cameras, most laptops). More than 100 Wh and up to 160 Wh requires airline approval and is capped at 2 spares per person. Above 160 Wh is not accepted.
04Terminal protection is mandatory: "Spare batteries must be packed with terminals covered/insulated to prevent short-circuiting." Original retail packaging counts; otherwise tape the terminals with non-conductive tape.
05Smart bags with a built-in battery follow a separate rule: the removable power bank must be 100 Wh or less, two per guest, may stay attached to a carry-on — but must be removed before a checked or gate-checked bag is accepted.
06One thing Alaska does NOT require of ordinary power banks: an English watt-hour marking. That wording appears only in the mobility-device section of the same page (battery ≤160 Wh, marked by the manufacturer with the Wh rating or V and Ah in English) — don't generalise it to a phone charger.

"Alaska operated" is doing a lot of work
The sentence people quote — "convenient USB and power outlets on all Alaska operated flights" — sits on Alaska's Main Cabin page, and the qualifier matters. The 92 Embraer E175s are flown by Horizon Air and SkyWest, separate carriers on their own operating certificates, and the E175's own aircraft page credits only First Class with power outlets. Alaska doesn't publish a ruling either way on whether the promise reaches them, so the fleet-wide sentence and the type page point in different directions on the same aircraft. On the mainline 737s the two agree; on a regional leg, don't count on the promise.

One line in Alaska's June 2025 piece changes where you look: "we're moving the power outlet from the seatback to provide even more leg room." It doesn't say which aircraft have had the change, and several of Alaska's own type pages still carry the older "seatback" wording — so on any 737 the socket could be at knee height or somewhere lower. If you can't find one on the seatback in front of you, check the seat base and the side of the console before deciding the row has nothing.

Alaska's hubs charge you before the plane does
The Port of Seattle's own amenities page lists under-seat power outlets at nearly every gate on A, B, D and S, plus an ADA-compliant charging station at D — though two readings of that same undated page disagree about whether C and N are done or still planned, so treat the C/N gates as unresolved. What is documented for N, Alaska's principal SEA concourse, is the modernization project's promise of "a charger at every seat" in the remodeled holdrooms. At Portland, the Port of Portland says Alaska's Concourse B has more than 300 places to plug in across its gate areas. Top up before boarding — especially if your leg is an E175 or a 717.

One bank first, then three backups.
With in-flight bank use banned, the seat outlet is your only air-side charge — and half the fleet doesn't guarantee one. So the bank leads for the gate and arrival, the GaN charger handles the outlets that do exist.
