Do Air France planes have power outlets?

Yes — Air France planes have power outlets on essentially the whole long-haul fleet: the 777s and the 787-9 list universal AC sockets plus USB, and the refitted A330s give every passenger a personal outlet and two USB ports. The plane to plan around is the A350-900 — outside Business it's USB-A / USB-C only, no mains socket — and since the 2026 rule change you can't use a power bank in flight, so the seat port is your only in-air charge.

§ 01The verdictAnswer up front

Do Air France planes have outlets? Yesnearly everywhere long-haul, with one A350-shaped catch.

  • AC mains: most 777 and 787-9 cabins have universal sockets plus USB, and the refitted A330s give each passenger a personal outlet and two USB ports — economy included. The one big economy gap is the 430-seat Caribbean / Indian Ocean 777, whose official spec lists a screen and USB only.
  • The A350-900 is the trap: outside Business, plan on USB only. Two recent reviews found no usable economy mains outlet, and on the newest 48-Business-seat version crew-confirmed passenger reports say even Premium Economy has no AC.
  • USB-C lives in the new cabins: the La Première suites (110V/220V sockets, USB-A, USB-C and induction charging), the new Safran 777 Business (60W USB-C plus a wireless pad), the 2023 A350 cabins — and every seat on the A220-300, the first Air France jet with USB-C throughout.
  • Power banks: you can still carry two — under 100Wh freely, 100–160Wh with prior approval, over 160Wh forbidden — but you can no longer use or recharge them in flight — cabin baggage only, kept accessible, never in the overhead bin.

The flagship. Each La Première suite (4 on board, from 2025) has 110V/220V sockets, USB-A, USB-C and induction charging slots; the new Safran Business suite adds a 110V outlet, a 60W USB-C and a wireless pad on the side counter (USB-A appears in some reviews but isn't consistently documented). The refitted rear cabins run Air France's new-generation collection — an individual electric socket plus USB at every seat — but the connector type isn't published, so USB-C back there reads unconfirmed.

The 2023-generation cabin (phased in from July 2023). Business gets AC, USB-A, USB-C, a wireless induction charger and privacy doors. The surprise: crew-confirmed passenger reports say this version's Premium Economy has NO AC outlet anywhere in the cabin — USB-A + USB-C only. Economy is likewise USB-only, in the IFE bezel.

The earlier A350 cabin. Business has a universal AC socket plus USB-A and USB-C. Crew statements reported by passengers say this version's Premium Economy does have an outlet at each seat — unlike the 2023 cabin — though a November 2025 review claims only Business has AC on any Air France A350, so treat Premium Economy power here as unconfirmed. Economy: a February 2025 first-hand review found USB charging but no usable mains outlet, so plan on USB only outside Business whichever A350 you board.

One layout fleet-wide, with universal power and USB sockets in the cabin spec. Premium Economy's outlets sit on a shared console — two AC and two USB between a seat pair — and refitted frames add USB-C in the armrest. Economy on refitted aircraft runs the new collection seat with an individual socket plus USB; connector types vary by refit, so verify USB-C on your frame.

Business has an AC outlet and USB-A tucked under the side console — easy to miss in the dark — with no USB-C or wireless pad documented in the reviews we found, unlike the new 777 suite. Economy has both a power socket and USB at the seat. Premium Economy's exact port mix isn't reliably documented, so those cells read as unknown — check your seat map.

The quiet best-in-fleet for coverage: Air France's official refit spec (15 aircraft, completed around 2020) gives every single passenger a personal power outlet and two USB ports, in every cabin. It's a USB-A-generation refit, so no USB-C anywhere.

No source documents USB-A anywhere on the Airbus A320 family (ceo) — in any cabin.

No AC outlets on the classic short-haul jets. A November 2024 flight found USB-A ports under the seat; 2020-era reports found no in-seat power at all, and claims that the whole A320/A321 fleet now has USB come only from seat-map aggregators. Treat USB as many-but-not-guaranteed and board charged.

§ 04The power-bank ruleEffective ICAO rule, 27 Mar 2026

Carry it. But you can't use it in the air.

Applies on all Air France flights; KLM applies the identical use-and-recharge ban across the group. It mirrors the ICAO direction the whole industry is moving toward — carriage is fine, in-cabin use is not.

  • 01You may still CARRY power banks — up to 2 per passenger, cabin baggage only, never in checked luggage. Under 100Wh needs no approval; 100–160Wh requires prior approval from Air France or your travel agency; over 160Wh is forbidden.
  • 02You may NOT use a power bank to charge a device on board, and you may NOT recharge the power bank itself in flight.
  • 03Keep it under your supervision and readily accessible — on you, in the seat pocket, or in the bag under the seat in front. Storing it in the overhead bin is explicitly prohibited.
  • 04The rule is industry-wide, not an Air France quirk: new ICAO provisions effective 27 March 2026 cap passengers at two power banks and ban in-flight recharging — KLM's version of the rule is identical.

Quirk 01

The A350 is the outlet trap

Air France flies the A350-900 in two cabin versions, and neither is generous in the back. Recent first-hand reviews found no usable economy mains outlet on either, and on the newest version (48 Business seats) crew-confirmed passenger reports say even Premium Economy has no AC — USB-A and USB-C only. Whichever A350 you board, plan on USB outside Business and leave the barrel-plug laptop charger at home.

Quirk 02

The Caribbean 777 packs 430 economy seats — and lists USB only

The leisure-config 777-300ER that flies the Antilles and Indian Ocean routes squeezes 430 economy seats in 3-4-3, and Air France's own cabin spec lists an 11.6-inch screen and a USB port for economy — no mains socket. Business and Premium Economy on the same jet do get outlets. These are 8–11 hour flights, so charge everything before boarding and bring a cable, not a plug.

Quirk 03

New Business is a booking lottery

The new Safran suite with doors — 110V AC, USB-A, 60W USB-C and a wireless pad — has been flying on 777-300ERs since 2022–2023, with at least 19 more four-cabin frames being refitted (announced March 2025) and a further seat order placed in June 2025. Until the refresh finishes, the same route can be a new suite one day and an older AC-plus-USB-A seat the next. The airframe decides your ports, not the flight number.

Quirk 04

The 2026 twist: you can't top up with a power bank in the air

Air France now prohibits using or recharging power banks on board — a change driven by new ICAO provisions effective 27 March 2026, and mirrored word-for-word at KLM. You can still carry two banks under 100Wh in the cabin (never checked, never in the overhead bin), but in the air the seat outlet is your only option. Check the table above before counting on one.

Quirk 05

Charge at CDG before you board

Paris-CDG has free secure ChargeBox charging lockers after security in Terminal 1, Terminal 2D, Terminal 2E (Halls L and M) and Terminal 3, plus scattered outlets and USB ports around the departure gates. The wall sockets are French Type C/E at 230V — so if you live outside Europe, your travel adapter needs to be in your hand luggage, not your suitcase. With the in-flight power-bank ban, boarding at 100% is the new strategy.

§ 06The Air France flight packPower bank first

One bank first, then three backups.

With in-flight bank use banned, the seat outlet is your only air-side charge — and half the fleet doesn't guarantee one. So the bank leads for the gate and arrival, the GaN charger handles the outlets that do exist.

The one thing to buy first

A 20,000 mAh USB-C bank under 100Wh is still the single most useful thing to pack. Air France lets you carry two — you just can't use them in the air anymore. Gate, layover, arrival: that's where it earns its place.

§ 07Questions about Air France powerReal answers
Do Air France planes have power outlets?

Yes — on essentially the whole long-haul fleet. The 777s and the 787-9 list universal AC sockets plus USB, and the refitted A330s give every passenger a personal outlet and two USB ports, economy included. The exceptions: the A350-900 has AC in Business only (USB elsewhere), and the 430-seat leisure 777 to the Caribbean and Indian Ocean lists USB only in economy. Short-haul, the A220 has USB-A + USB-C at every seat but no AC, and the older A320-family jets are a USB lottery.

Does Air France economy class have power outlets?

On most long-haul aircraft, yes. Refitted 777s and the 787-9 have a socket plus USB at economy seats, and the refitted A330's official spec gives every passenger a personal outlet and two USB ports. The exceptions are the A350-900 — recent reviews found USB only, no usable mains outlet — and the leisure-config 777, whose official economy spec lists a screen and USB port only. Short-haul economy never has AC: USB-A + USB-C on the A220, maybe USB-A on the A320 family.

Which Air France aircraft have USB-C?

The new cabins. The La Première suites (select 777-300ERs from 2025) have 110V/220V sockets, USB-A, USB-C and induction charging; the new Safran 777 Business adds a 60W USB-C and a wireless pad; the 2023 A350-900 cabins carry USB-C in every class; refitted 777-200 Premium Economy adds USB-C in the armrest; and the A220-300 has USB-A + USB-C at all 148 seats. Notably undocumented: the 787-9 — reviews of its Business seat show AC and USB-A only, with no USB-C or wireless charging reported.

Can I use a power bank on an Air France flight in 2026?

No — Air France now prohibits using a power bank to charge a device on board, and prohibits recharging the bank itself, following ICAO provisions effective 27 March 2026 (KLM applies the same rule). You can still carry up to 2 per person in cabin baggage: under 100Wh freely, 100–160Wh only with prior approval, over 160Wh not at all. They must stay under your supervision and readily accessible — seat pocket or under-seat bag, never the overhead bin, never checked luggage. In the air, the seat outlet is your only charging option.

Does the Air France A350 have power outlets?

Only reliably in Business. Air France flies two A350-900 cabin versions: on the newest (48 Business seats, from July 2023) Business has AC, USB-A, USB-C and wireless charging — but crew-confirmed passenger reports say Premium Economy has no AC anywhere, and economy is USB-A + USB-C only. On the earlier version (34 Business seats), crew statements say Premium Economy does have outlets (reports conflict — don't count on it), and a 2025 economy review still found no usable mains socket. Safe rule: on any Air France A350, plan on USB only outside Business.

Do Air France short-haul flights have power or USB?

It depends on the jet. The A220-300 is the good draw: USB-A and USB-C at every seat with a 60W power provision — though no AC outlet on board. The older A320-family aircraft have no AC either, and USB is a retrofit lottery: a late-2024 flight found USB-A ports under the seats, while older frames have been reported with no in-seat power at all. Fleet-wide-USB claims only appear on seat-map aggregators, so assume nothing until you've seen your seat map — and board charged.

Where can I charge before an Air France flight at Paris-CDG?

CDG has free secure ChargeBox charging lockers after security in the departure lounges of Terminal 1, Terminal 2D, Terminal 2E (Halls L and M) and Terminal 3, and Paris Aéroport documents device-charging facilities across the airport. Gate areas have scattered outlets and USB ports. One catch for non-EU travellers: the wall sockets are French Type C/E at 230V, so you need your travel adapter in your hand luggage to use them. With power-bank use banned in flight, topping up at the gate matters more than it used to.
