FIELD GUIDE No. 04 · FFlight · Delta Air Lines12 aircraft

Do Delta Air Lines planes have power outlets?

Yes — on Delta's mainline fleet, power outlets are close to universal: delta.com lists USB in-seat power plus an AC outlet in every cabin of the 757s, 737-800, A319 / A320 / A321, A321neo, A330-900neo and 767-400ER, and in most cabins of the A350-900 and 767-300ER. USB-C is the newer story: today it's only confirmed on the premium-heavy A321neo flying since June 2026 (60W USB-C at every seat, per launch reports) — the rest of the fleet says just 'USB in-seat power', and where the type is documented it's USB-A. The gaps to know: one 737-900ER variant (the 73R) lists no seat power at all, and Delta Connection regional jets usually have none in Main Cabin. Power banks fly carry-on only — you may run one at cruise, but you may never recharge it on board.

§ 01The verdictAnswer up front

Do Delta planes have power outlets? Yesmainline is nearly wall-to-wall; the regional jets are not.

  • The baseline: delta.com's amenity grids list USB in-seat power AND an AC outlet in every cabin — Main Cabin included — on the 757-200, 757-300, 737-800, A319, A320, A321, A321neo, A330-900neo and 767-400ER. Delta also flies more than 165,000 seatback screens, so the seat you're charging at almost always has its own screen too.
  • USB-C is confirmed only on the newest metal: the premium-heavy A321neo (in service June 2026) carries USB-A + 60W USB-C + a universal AC outlet at every seat, per launch reports. The standard A321neo is USB-A — two ports in First, one elsewhere, AC shared outside First — and everywhere else Delta's pages say only 'USB in-seat power' without naming the connector.
  • The exceptions: the 737-900ER '73R' variant lists Wi-Fi only — no USB, no AC, no seatback screens; the A350-900 Main Cabin and 767-300ER Comfort+ grids omit the AC-outlet icon (treat as unconfirmed, not absent); and on Delta Connection regional jets, Main Cabin usually lists no in-seat power at all.
  • Power banks: carry-on only, max 20 spare batteries (each ≤160 Wh, no more than two at 100–160 Wh), never in the overhead bin. Delta's rule is narrower than the blanket bans: charging your phone from a bank at cruise is allowed — what's banned is recharging the bank itself at any phase, plus device-charging from it during taxi, takeoff and landing.

Delta's best-charging seat today. The premium-heavy layout — 44 First recliners at roughly 38-inch pitch — entered service in June 2026 on Atlanta transcontinental routes with 13-inch Bluetooth seatback screens and, per launch reports, USB-A plus a 60W USB-C and a universal AC outlet at every seat. Delta's own page says only 'USB in-seat power', so the 60W USB-C spec rests on those reports.

The trap inside the good news: Delta's newest standard narrow-body is USB-A, not USB-C. First gets two USB-A ports and a 110V universal outlet of its own; behind it, each seat has one USB-A and the AC socket is shared. The seatback screens do pair over Bluetooth. If you want USB-C on an A321neo, only the premium 3NP config has it.

Delta's newest widebody has its cleanest power story: the official amenity grid lists USB in-seat power and an AC outlet in all four cabins, Main Cabin included. Delta never specifies the USB connector type, so no source documents USB-C here — carry a USB-A cable and you're covered either way.

The elder statesman: Delta retired its first 767-300ER in April 2026 after 36 years, plans to pull the type off long-haul international by 2028 and retire it fully by 2030. Until then, USB + AC are listed in Delta One, Premium Select and Main Cabin. Comfort+ oddly shows USB with no AC icon — likely a grid omission, but verify on your frame. The 76L variant has no Premium Select cabin at all.

One type, three power realities. The 739 lists full USB + AC in every cabin; the 73J keeps the AC outlet for First only; and the 73R lists Wi-Fi alone — no USB, no AC outlet, no seatback screens in any cabin — the one mainline Delta jet whose grid documents nothing at the seat (the A220 and 717 grids are unconfirmed in our sources). You can't choose your variant at booking, so board any 737-900ER charged.

§ 04The power-bank ruleEffective Delta policy, Aug 2026

Carry it. Run it in cruise — never recharge it on board.

Applies on Delta flights (the official battery page doesn't address Delta Connection separately). Press reports in April 2026 said a two-charger limit would start 1 May 2026, but as of August 2026 Delta's own battery page still says 20 spare batteries and carries no such language. Delta's rule is narrower than the blanket bans at Lufthansa or Air France: using a power bank at cruise is allowed — what's prohibited is recharging the bank itself at any phase, and charging devices from it during taxi, takeoff and landing.

Sources
  • 01Spare lithium batteries — power banks included — travel in CARRY-ON baggage only, individually protected against short circuit. They may never go in checked bags.
  • 02Limits: a maximum of 20 spare batteries per passenger; lithium-ion up to 160 Wh each, and no more than two spares between 100 and 160 Wh.
  • 03Not in the overhead bin: Delta instructs you to keep lithium batteries and power banks easily accessible — under the seat in front of you or in the seatback pocket.
  • 04Delta's in-flight rule, per its battery page: spare batteries must not be charged from in-flight power at any phase, and must not be used to charge devices during taxi, takeoff or landing. In plain terms: the bank boards full — the seat's outlet won't legally refill it — and it stays unplugged from your phone until cruise.
  • 05Reported, not (yet) official: news outlets said Delta would cap passengers at two portable chargers (each ≤100 Wh) from 1 May 2026, aligning with American — but that limit did not appear on Delta's own battery page as of 9 August 2026. If you want zero gate-agent debate, pack two max anyway.

Quirk 01

A Delta ticket isn't always a Delta plane

Short hops sold as Delta are often Delta Connection — CRJs and Embraers flown by regional partners — and that's where the power map collapses: Main Cabin lists no in-seat power at all on the CRJ-700, the 76-seat CRJ-900 and the E170, the E175 has no AC outlet in any cabin, and the CRJ-550 isn't documented in our sources at all. No regional jet has seatback screens either. Check the aircraft type on your booking, not just the flight number — 'operated by' is the tell.

Quirk 02

One 737-900ER is a power desert

Delta's 737-900ER flies in three variants and only its amenity grid knows which you'll get: the 739 has USB + AC in every cabin, the 73J keeps AC for First only, and the 73R lists Wi-Fi alone — no USB, no AC, no seatback screens anywhere. It's the single biggest exception on the mainline fleet. Any 737-900ER booking deserves a full battery at boarding.

Quirk 03

USB-C is younger at Delta than the fleet suggests

Delta's amenity grids say 'USB in-seat power' without ever naming the connector — and where the type is documented, it's USB-A: even the standard A321neo, in service since 2022, carries USB-A ports only. The confirmed USB-C exception is the premium-heavy A321neo flying Atlanta transcons since June 2026, with 60W USB-C at every seat per launch reports. So on today's Delta, a USB-A cable is the safe bet; a USB-C-only cable is a gamble.

Quirk 04

The 2027 upgrade: USB-C at every seat, on the new metal

Delta's 'Suite Spot' program — the A350-1000 arriving early 2027 (slipped from 2026) and the refreshed A330-200/300s — puts USB-C and universal AC outlets at every seat in every cabin, under Delta's largest-ever 4K QLED Bluetooth seatback screens. The A350-1000's Delta One suite gets a 24-inch screen and wireless charging set into a stone inlay. It's a $1B+ program, with 90% of Delta One seats expected to be suites by 2030 — but the rollout only begins with select new deliveries in 2026 (the A350-1000 debut is slated for early 2027), so don't pack for it this year.

Quirk 05

Power banks: cruise use is legal — refilling is not

Delta is not on the blanket in-flight ban list. Its official rule bans recharging a spare battery from in-flight power at any phase, and bans charging devices from it during taxi, takeoff and landing — using a bank to top up your phone at cruise is allowed. Carry-on only, max 20 spares (≤160 Wh each, two max at 100–160 Wh), kept out of the overhead bin and within reach. Press reports of a two-charger limit from May 2026 hadn't reached Delta's own battery page as of August 2026 — pack two max if you want zero debate.

§ 06The Delta Air Lines flight packPower bank first

One bank first, then three backups.

With in-flight bank use banned, the seat outlet is your only air-side charge — and half the fleet doesn't guarantee one. So the bank leads for the gate and arrival, the GaN charger handles the outlets that do exist.

The one thing to buy first

A 20,000 mAh USB-C bank under 100Wh is the single most useful thing to pack. Delta lets you run it at cruise — you just can't refill it from the seat — and it's the only power you'll get in Main Cabin on most Delta Connection jets, at the gate, and on arrival.

§ 07Questions about Delta Air Lines powerReal answers
Do Delta planes have power outlets?

Yes — on the mainline fleet, almost everywhere. Delta's official amenity grids list USB in-seat power plus an AC outlet in every cabin of the 757-200, 757-300, 737-800, A319, A320, A321, A321neo, A330-900neo and 767-400ER, and in most cabins of the A350-900 and 767-300ER. The exceptions: the 737-900ER '73R' variant lists no in-seat power at all, and Delta Connection regional jets usually have no power in Main Cabin. Delta's grids don't document power on the A220, 717 or the Delta Connection CRJ-550 in our sources — check your flight's amenity grid.

Do Delta planes have USB-C ports?

Mostly not yet. The one confirmed USB-C aircraft is the premium-heavy A321neo flying Atlanta transcontinental routes since June 2026 — launch reports list USB-A plus a 60W USB-C and a universal AC outlet at every seat. The standard A321neo is USB-A only (two ports in First, one per seat elsewhere), and everywhere else Delta's pages say just 'USB in-seat power' without naming the connector — no source documents USB-C there. Fleet-wide USB-C is coming: Delta says every seat on the A350-1000 (arriving early 2027) and the refreshed A330-200/300s will get USB-C and universal AC outlets. For now, pack a USB-A cable.

Can you charge your phone on a Delta flight?

On nearly any mainline Delta jet, yes — every cabin of the 757s, 737-800, A319/A320/A321, A321neo, A330-900neo and 767-400ER lists both USB and an AC outlet, so a phone charges from either. Two situations to plan around: the 737-900ER 73R variant lists no seat power, and Main Cabin on most Delta Connection regional jets has none. In those seats a power bank is your charger — Delta allows using one at cruise, just never recharging the bank itself on board.

Do Delta international flights have power outlets?

Yes. Delta's long-haul widebodies all list in-seat power: the A330-900neo and 767-400ER show USB + AC in all four cabins; the A350-900 shows USB everywhere with AC listed in Delta One, Premium Select and Comfort+ (the Main Cabin grid lists USB but omits the AC icon — likely a grid omission, but verify your seat map); and the 767-300ER lists USB + AC in Delta One, Premium Select and Main. Even the transatlantic 757-200 (the 75S with Delta One flat-beds) lists USB + AC in every cabin.

Can I use a power bank on a Delta flight?

Yes, with two specific limits. Delta's official rule: spare batteries must not be charged using in-flight power during any phase of flight, and must not be used to charge devices during taxi, takeoff or landing — which means using a power bank at cruise is allowed, but the bank itself boards full and stays that way. Carriage: carry-on only (never checked), max 20 spare batteries, each up to 160 Wh with no more than two between 100–160 Wh, kept out of the overhead bin and easily accessible. News reports said a two-charger limit would start 1 May 2026, but it did not appear on Delta's own battery page as of August 2026.

Do Delta Connection regional jets have power outlets?

Often not in Main Cabin. Delta's official pages list USB + AC in First and Comfort+ on the CRJ-700, CRJ-900 and E170 — but Main Cabin lists Wi-Fi only on the CRJ-700, the 76-seat CRJ-900 and the E170. The E175 has no AC outlet in any cabin; its Main Cabin has USB on some operators and nothing on Republic's 76-seaters. The 70-seat CRJ-900 is the friendly exception, with USB + AC in all three cabins. No regional jet has seatback screens, so board with your device — and a power bank — charged.

Which Delta planes have no power at the seat?

Two cases. On the mainline fleet: only the 737-900ER '73R' variant, whose amenity grid lists Wi-Fi alone — no USB, no AC outlet and no seatback screens in any cabin (its siblings, the 739 and 73J, do have power). On the regional fleet: Main Cabin on the CRJ-700, the 76-seat CRJ-900, the E170 and Republic's E175s lists no in-seat power. You can't select the 737-900ER variant when booking, so treat any 737-900ER or Delta Connection leg as a board-it-charged flight.
