Do Singapore Airlines planes have power outlets?

Yes — every Singapore Airlines seat has at least a USB-A port, and every Suites, First, Business and Premium Economy seat has its own plug socket. Economy is the catch. On the A350, A380, 777 and 787-10, three economy seats share two sockets under the seats in front (787-10 bulkhead seats get their own), and the 737-8 has no economy socket at all, only a USB-A port under the screen. There is no USB-C on any Singapore Airlines aircraft yet; the first retrofitted A350 is due in the first quarter of 2027. Power banks: since 1 April 2025 you may not use one or charge one on board, and since 15 April 2026 you may carry no more than two.

§ 01The verdictAnswer up front

Do Singapore Airlines planes have power outlets? Yes — every seat gets USB-A, but economy shares the socket.

  • Suites, First, Business and Premium Economy: your own plug socket plus USB-A, on every aircraft. A 2025 fleet guide puts it plainly: those passengers 'are each guaranteed a personal in-seat power outlet and USB-A port(s).'
  • Widebody economy (A350, A380, 777-300ER, 787-10): a USB-A port at every seat and two sockets under the seats for every three passengers. On the 787-10, bulkhead-row passengers each get their own.
  • The 737-8 is the exception: economy has a USB-A port under the screen and no plug socket at all. Business on the 737-8 has both.
  • No USB-C anywhere yet. The new First and Business seats that bring it are delayed to the first quarter of 2027. Pack a USB-A cable.
  • Power banks: two per passenger, cabin bag only, never in the overhead bin — and no using or charging them in flight. The use ban dates from 1 April 2025; the two-bank cap from 15 April 2026. Scoot applies the same rules.

Board it charged.

Every row below is a best guess until you sit down: Singapore Airlines swaps aircraft, and the socket that was there last month may not be there today. A bank under the 100Wh carry-on ceiling makes the whole table academic.

Every Singapore Airlines aircraft, cabin by cabin.

Find your aircraft on the booking or seat map first — the same flight number can be a different jet day to day. Where a cell reads Not listed, no source we can stand behind says that outlet is there or isn't; we'd rather tell you that than guess. Carry a bank for the gate and arrival regardless.

The workhorse long-haul jet, with the 2013 Business seat. Business hides a plug socket, USB-A and HDMI behind a panel in the seat. Premium economy has its own universal socket in the centre armrest and two USB-A ports, one at the screen and one by the headphone jack. Economy has two USB-A ports below the screen — only the one with the charging symbol is certain to charge — and a socket under the seats in front, two for every three passengers. A 2024 reviewer found no USB-C in any cabin.

Every seat has its own socket and USB-A: a 2025 fleet guide says Business and Premium Economy passengers on Singapore Airlines are each 'guaranteed a personal in-seat power outlet and USB-A port(s)', and a 2025 review of the world's longest flight found the outlet beside the headrest. No USB-C: on an 18-hour flight, that means a USB-A cable or your own charger.

The narrowbody that took over SilkAir's routes, flying as far as Cairns, about six and a half hours. Business has an AC outlet and a USB-A port on the counter, plus a second USB-A port by the headphone jack — no USB-C. Economy has one USB-A port under the screen and no plug socket: a 2022 reviewer called it 'a strange omission in this day and age'. With power banks banned in flight, a laptop has to board charged.

§ 04The power-bank ruleEffective 1 April 2025

Carry it. But you can't use it in the air.

Applies on every Singapore Airlines flight, and Scoot publishes the same rules. The ban on using or charging a bank took effect on 1 April 2025; the two-bank limit was added on 15 April 2026, when Singapore also applied it to every flight departing the country. Singapore Airlines goes further than the regulators. ICAO's 2026 update bans recharging a power bank in flight, and Singapore's aviation authority only advises passengers not to use one; Singapore Airlines bans both, and has since April 2025.

  • 01Two power banks per passenger, maximum. Up to 100 Wh (roughly 27,000 mAh) needs no approval; 100–160 Wh needs Singapore Airlines' approval in advance, with UN 38.3 test documentation; over 160 Wh is not allowed. Extra banks must be disposed of before the flight.
  • 02No use on board: power banks 'must not be used to charge personal devices, during the flight.'
  • 03No charging on board: they 'must not be charged using the in-seat power outlets or USB ports.' Board with them full.
  • 04Keep them in the seat-back pocket or under the seat in front — never in the overhead bin.
  • 05Cabin baggage only. Power banks are not permitted in checked bags.

◆ Quirk 01

On the 737-8, economy has no plug socket

Every Singapore Airlines widebody has sockets in economy; the 737-8 doesn't. Its economy seats have one USB-A port under the screen and nothing else — 'Singapore Airlines decided against installing in-seat power in Economy Class', a 2022 review says. The jet flies as far as Cairns, about six and a half hours, and power banks can't be used on board. Charge the laptop at Changi, and bring a USB-A cable for the phone.

◆ Quirk 02

Two sockets for three seats — unless you're at the bulkhead

In economy on the A350, A380, 777 and 787-10, the sockets sit under the seats in front, two for every three passengers. A 2017 A380 review's advice: 'claim it quickly if you want to use your laptop'. On the 787-10, the bulkhead-row passengers each get their own outlet, so if you need mains power in economy, that's the row to pick.

◆ Quirk 03

No USB-C on any Singapore Airlines jet — yet

Every USB port in the fleet is USB-A; a 2025 fleet guide says 'USB-C charging is currently not available on any Singapore Airlines aircraft'. The new First and Business seats that bring it were meant to debut on a retrofitted A350 in 2026, and that slipped to the first quarter of 2027. Until then, bring a USB-A-to-USB-C or USB-A-to-Lightning cable — the one most travellers have stopped carrying.

◆ Quirk 04

Two USB ports at the screen, but only one may charge

On the long-haul A350 and the 777, economy seats have two USB-A ports below the screen. One is for data: a 2024 reviewer noticed 'only one of these USB-A outlets has a charging logo'. Use the one with the lightning-bolt symbol. The same goes for premium economy on the A380, where the port under the screen is the high-power one and the port behind the armrest is slower.

◆ Quirk 05

Singapore Airlines says bring an adaptor

Singapore Airlines' own cabin pages footnote the seat socket with '*Travel adaptor required'. Reviewers describe universal sockets that took UK and US plugs, and a 2019 787-10 reviewer found they were 'international multi-plug ports'. The airline's footnote is the safer guide: a small plug adapter costs little and settles it.

◆ Quirk 06

Scoot is a different story for power

Scoot, the group's low-cost airline, follows the same power-bank rules — two per passenger, no use or charging on board — but its seats are nothing like Singapore Airlines'. A 2025 guide found in-seat power only on Scoot's 787s, no USB ports anywhere, and a fee of S$5 to S$11 to switch the socket on unless you're in ScootPlus. Nothing on this page is sourced from Scoot aircraft.

§ 06The Singapore Airlines flight packPower bank first

One bank first, then three backups.

Singapore Airlines bans using a power bank in flight, but every seat on every jet has at least a USB-A port, and every seat from premium economy up has its own plug socket. Economy is where it gets tight: two sockets for every three seats on the widebodies, and none at all on the 737-8. There is no USB-C anywhere yet. So the bank is for Changi and arrival, the USB-A cable is for the seat, and the GaN charger is for the socket you get first.

№ 01Buy first

20,000 mAh USB-C power bank

≈ 74 Wh · under 100Wh · carry-on legal

Still the one to buy first, even though Singapore Airlines won't let you use it on board. At about 74 Wh it needs no approval, and you're allowed two. In flight it sits in the seat pocket or under the seat, never the overhead bin, and it can't be charged from the seat. Its job is the Changi connection, the gate and arrival.

65W USB-C GaN charger

1× AC plug · USB-C PD · pocket-sized

For the socket every premium seat has, and your share of the economy ones. Singapore Airlines has no USB-C at the seat, so a GaN brick is the only way to fast-charge a phone or run a USB-C laptop on board. Two ports matter when three people share two sockets. The airline footnotes its sockets 'Travel adaptor required', so keep a plug adapter with it.

Short 100W USB-C cable

0.5–1m · 100W rated · braided

Pairs with the GaN charger: from the socket under the seat in front up to a laptop on the tray. Short is better in economy, where the socket sits low and is shared. For the seat's own USB-A port, you'll also want a USB-A lead — every USB port in the fleet is USB-A.

USB-only charging cube

1× AC plug · 4 USB ports · CE marked

For the shared economy sockets on the A350, A380, 777 and 787-10: two outlets for three people. A cube turns your turn at the socket into four USB outputs, enough for you and a neighbour. It's a wall charger, not a power strip, so it won't be treated as a fire-risk item.

The one thing to buy first

A 20,000 mAh USB-C bank under 100 Wh is the most useful thing to pack for a Singapore Airlines trip. You can carry two but not use them in the air, so it earns its place on the ground: the Changi connection, the gate and arrival.

§ 07Questions about Singapore Airlines powerReal answers
Do Singapore Airlines planes have power outlets?

Yes. Every seat has at least a USB-A port, and every Suites, First, Business and Premium Economy seat has its own plug socket. In economy on the A350, A380, 777-300ER and 787-10, three seats share two sockets under the seats in front. The one exception is the 737-8, where economy has a USB-A port but no socket.

Does Singapore Airlines economy have power outlets?

On the widebodies, yes, but shared: the A350, A380, 777-300ER and 787-10 have two sockets for every three economy seats, under the seats in front, and on the 787-10 each bulkhead-row passenger gets their own. Every economy seat also has a USB-A port at the screen. On the 737-8, economy has the USB-A port only — no plug socket.

Does Singapore Airlines have USB-C charging?

Not yet. Every USB port in the Singapore Airlines fleet is USB-A. The new First and Business seats, which are expected to bring USB-C, debut on a retrofitted A350 in the first quarter of 2027, delayed from 2026. Until then, bring a USB-A cable, or a USB-C charger to plug into the seat socket.

Can I use a power bank on a Singapore Airlines flight?

No. Since 1 April 2025 Singapore Airlines has banned using a power bank to charge a device and charging a power bank from the seat. Since 15 April 2026 you may carry no more than two. Up to 100 Wh needs no approval; 100–160 Wh needs the airline's approval in advance. They go in cabin baggage only, and on board in the seat pocket or under the seat in front — never the overhead bin.

Does the Singapore Airlines 737-8 have power outlets?

In Business, yes: an AC outlet and two USB-A ports, but no USB-C. In economy, no: each seat has one USB-A port under the screen and there is no plug socket. The 737-8 flies regional routes as long as six and a half hours, so charge a laptop before you board.

Does Singapore Airlines premium economy have power outlets?

Yes, one per seat, on the A350, A350-900ULR, A380 and 777-300ER. It's a universal socket, low at the front of the seat or in the centre armrest depending on the aircraft, plus USB-A ports at the screen and in the armrest. There's no USB-C.

Do I need a plug adapter for Singapore Airlines seat sockets?

Probably not, but pack one. Reviewers describe universal sockets that accept UK and US plugs, and call the 787-10 economy outlets 'international multi-plug ports'. Singapore Airlines' own cabin pages, though, footnote the seat socket 'Travel adaptor required'. A small plug adapter covers you either way.

Are Scoot's power rules the same as Singapore Airlines'?

For power banks, yes: Scoot allows two per passenger from 15 April 2026 and bans using or charging them on board. For seat power, no: a 2025 guide found sockets only on Scoot's 787s, no USB ports, and a S$5–11 fee to use the socket unless you're in ScootPlus. Check Scoot's own site before you fly.
