History

Type K was developed in Denmark as an evolution of the European plug standard. It adds a grounding pin for safety while maintaining compatibility with Type C devices. The standard has been adopted by several countries with Danish historical connections.

Safety

Type K features a grounding pin offset from the main power pins, providing protection against electrical faults. The socket is recessed to prevent accidental contact with live pins during insertion.

Compatibility

Type C plugs (Europlug) fit into Type K outlets. Type E and F plugs may also fit with some force, though this is not recommended. Type K plugs will not fit into other outlet types.

Which countries use Type K?+

Type K is used in Denmark, GL, Senegal and across Europe, Africa. See the full list below.

Is the Type K plug grounded?+

Yes. Type K has a dedicated grounding pin for safe operation with appliances that require an earth connection.

Do I need a voltage converter for Type K countries?+

Type K countries operate at 220-240V, 50Hz. Modern dual-voltage electronics (phones, laptops, cameras labelled "100-240V") work everywhere with just a plug adapter. Single-voltage appliances from a different voltage zone need a converter.

Can I use my iPhone or laptop charger with Type K?+

Yes. Apple chargers and most laptop power supplies are dual-voltage (100-240V), so they work in Type K countries with just a plug adapter — no converter needed.
