History

Switzerland developed its own electrical standard to ensure high quality and safety. The Type J design is similar to Type C but adds a grounding pin offset from the main pins. This unique design is exclusive to Switzerland.

Safety

Type J sockets feature recessed design for safety. The grounding pin provides protection, and the socket construction prevents accidental contact with live parts. Swiss electrical standards are known for high quality.

Compatibility

Type J outlets accept Type C (Europlug) plugs for ungrounded devices. Only Type J plugs can take advantage of the grounding. The 10A rating is lower than Type F (16A).
