FIELD GUIDE No. 03 · FMaritime · 4 ship classesEdition: June 2026

Princess Cruises cabin outlets, by ship class.

Princess is the line where new versus old matters most. Sphere-class Sun Princess (2024) is the most outlet-rich cabin in mainstream cruising — fifteen charging points reachable from bed or desk, including USB-A and USB-C on both sides of the bed. Step back a generation to the Grand class (1998–2008) and you have two desk outlets and zero USB. Princess's parent company Carnival Corp permits non-surge power strips, so the older ships are at least solvable with the right pack.

§ 01The verdictOne-breath summary

Pick the ship class first. Then pick the pack.

  • Sphere class (Sun, Star Princess): 5× US + 1× EU + 4× USB-A + 4× USB-C — fleet-leading.
  • Royal class: 2× US + 1× EU + USB-A on Majestic / Sky / Enchanted / Discovery; Royal and Regal have no USB in standard cabins.
  • Grand class: 2× US only, zero EU, zero USB.
  • 1995 Sun class (Coral, Island Princess only remaining): 2× US, zero EU, zero USB.
  • Carnival Corp policy: non-surge power strips and multi-plug adapters allowed.

§ 04The policyPower strips · surge · multi-plug

What Princess Cruises actually permits, with sources.

Carnival Corp policy applies: non-surge power strips and multi-plug adapters are permitted when used safely. Surge protectors banned. Items judged hazardous are held until debark.

Naming collision: two different 'Sun Princess' ships exist

The 2024 Sphere-class Sun Princess is the new flagship. The 1995 Sun-class Sun Princess was a totally different ship (since sold). Articles about 'Sun Princess outlets' written before 2024 describe the older ship — check publication date before trusting outlet counts.

Quirk

Sphere class has bedside parity — both sides equal

Most cruise ships put all the charging on one side of the bed. Sun Princess and Star Princess give each side 1× US outlet, 1× USB-A, and 1× USB-C. Couples don't fight over the lone bedside socket.

§ 06The Princess Cruises packTuned to this line

Pack the right three things.

Curated for Princess Cruises's specific cabin loadout and power policy. Every item complies with the line's permitted-items list — no surprises at embarkation.

Non-surge cruise power strip
01

Non-surge cruise power strip

4 outlets · NO surge · NO indicator LED

Princess permits this. On Grand class with 2 desk outlets and zero USB, this is the mandatory pack item — multiplies one outlet into four, hands you a usable cabin.

§ 07Questions about Princess CruisesReal answers
Can I bring a power strip on Princess Cruises?

Yes — as long as it has no surge protection and no indicator LED. Princess inherits Carnival Corp's policy: non-surge power strips and multi-plug adapters are explicitly permitted; surge protectors are banned.

Which Princess ship has the most outlets?

Sun Princess and Star Princess (Sphere class, 2024–2025) — 5× US + 1× EU + 4× USB-A + 4× USB-C with charging on both sides of the bed. Independent reviewers count 15 reachable charging points per cabin, the highest in mainstream cruising.

Do Grand-class Princess ships have USB?

No. Grand, Golden, Star, Caribbean, Crown, Emerald, and Ruby Princess all launched with two desk outlets and zero USB, and none of them have been retrofitted with USB at scale. Pack USB-A wall chargers — or upgrade to Royal class or Sphere class.
