FIELD GUIDE No. 03 · BMaritime · 6 ship classesEdition: June 2026

Carnival cabin outlets, by ship class.

Carnival's official FAQ tells you exactly which ships have USB and which don't — the line publishes its per-ship table, and you should treat it as ground truth. Power strips and multi-plug adapters are allowed as long as they're non-surge. The catch is the older hulls: Dream, Magic, Breeze, and the surviving Conquest-class ships have a single usable AC outlet per cabin and zero built-in USB on their original blueprints.

§ 01The verdictOne-breath summary

Bring a non-surge strip. You'll need it.

  • Excel class (Mardi Gras, Celebration, Jubilee): 3× US + 3× EU, multiple USB.
  • Vista class: 1× US + 1× EU + 1× USB-A — the modern baseline.
  • Spirit class: 1× US + 1× EU + 1× USB-A (per Carnival's official table).
  • Dream / Conquest / Sunshine: 1× US + 1× EU, USB only on refurbished ships and only on bedside lamps.
  • Non-surge power strips and multi-plug adapters: permitted. Surge protectors: confiscated.

Every Carnival ship class, outlet by outlet.

Counts are for standard balcony / oceanview cabins. Suite cabins are typically the same loadout plus dedicated charging amenities. Bathroom outlets are universally shaver-only across the line.

§ 04The policyPower strips · surge · multi-plug

What Carnival actually permits, with sources.

Non-surge power strips and multi-plug adapters are explicitly permitted. Surge protectors are prohibited as a fire risk. Hazardous-looking items are held until the last day of the cruise and returned at debark.

Effective · Current 2026.

Quirk

The bathroom shaver outlet doesn't charge anything

Same as the rest of the industry: 110/220V dual-voltage but low-amp. Phones and tablets charge agonizingly slowly; hair dryers won't run.

Excel-class cabins hide a USB inside the bedside lamp arm

The bendable reading-light arms on Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee have an integrated USB port at the base — easy to miss, easy to forget.

§ 06The Carnival packTuned to this line

Pack the right four things.

Curated for Carnival's specific cabin loadout and power policy. Every item complies with the line's permitted-items list — no surprises at embarkation.

Non-surge cruise power strip
01

Non-surge cruise power strip

4 outlets · NO surge · NO indicator LED

Carnival explicitly permits this. The 'no surge / no LED' spec is what security checks for. With Carnival's 1-usable-outlet baseline on older ships, this is the mandatory pack item.

§ 07Questions about CarnivalReal answers
Can I bring a power strip on Carnival?

Yes, as long as it has no surge protection and no indicator LED. Carnival's official policy permits non-surge power strips and multi-plug adapters. Surge protectors are confiscated at embarkation.

Which Carnival ships have USB ports in the cabin?

Carnival publishes a per-ship USB table — the authoritative answer. Vista class, Spirit class, and Excel class all have at least 1× USB-A per cabin. Dream / Magic / Breeze never got USB, even after 2024 refurbs. Conquest-class is mixed: Glory and Sunrise added lamp USB after refurb; others remained USB-free.

How many outlets are in a Carnival balcony cabin?

On the older Dream and Conquest classes, one US outlet plus one European outlet — a single usable charging point if you don't pack EU plug adapters. Excel class is the outlier at three US + three EU outlets clustered at the desk. Vista and Spirit classes sit between at one US + one EU + one USB.
