◉ PACK No. 09Semester abroad · 13 items · 5 categoriesEdition: June 2026

Moving abroad for the semester. Set up by week one.

The dorm-power command center, the carry and document protection, and the arrival comfort that's genuinely hard to source in a jet-lagged first week — a universal adapter, a desktop multiport charger, an airline-legal power bank, an anti-theft backpack and the document organizer for your passport and visa. The core is universal across countries; the one voltage-specific item (a US power strip) is flagged separately. Every item Amazon-verified in stock at publish.

§ 01The verdictWhat a dorm never comes with

Five problems. Five categories.

Sorted by the actual problems an arriving student faces: power for any country (a universal adapter and a desktop multiport charger); the desk command center (a USB-C hub, a study lamp, and a region-correct power strip); staying powered on the go (an airline-legal bank and cables); carry and protect (a laptop sleeve, an anti-theft backpack, a document organizer for your passport and visa); and settling in (earplugs for shared dorms and a basic first-aid kit). Everything is universal except the power strip, which is voltage-specific — buy that locally if you're not studying in the US.

Belkin 12-Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip, 3780J, 8ft Cord, 3 Pack

Belkin 12-outlet surge protector — dorm desks never have enough outlets. This is a US 120V strip: perfect if you're studying in the US or Canada, but it won't work on EU/UK/AU 230V dorm power — students there should buy a local strip on arrival.

Studying in the US? Add the power strip. Elsewhere, skip it.

Dorm desks never have enough outlets, but a power strip is voltage-specific: this is a US 120V strip. In the US or Canada it's perfect; on EU/UK/AU 230V dorm power it won't work — buy a local strip on arrival. That's why it's single-buy, not in the add-all cart.

§ 05QuestionsAbout this pack
Do I need a voltage converter for my dorm abroad?

No. Modern laptops, phones and tablets are dual-voltage (100-240V) — you only need the plug shape to fit, which the universal adapter handles. A voltage converter is the wrong tool. The one thing that IS voltage-specific is a power strip: buy that locally if you're not studying in the US.

Does this replace my university's health insurance?

No — and this matters. Most universities require their own student health plan and won't accept a travel policy to waive it. Heymondo covers your travel and arrival window (medical, evacuation, theft, interruption); keep it alongside, not instead of, your school's required plan. Check your school's waiver rules.

Why isn't the power strip in 'Add all to cart'?

Because a power strip is voltage-specific. The one here is US 120V — great for US and Canadian dorms, useless on EU/UK/AU 230V power. We keep it single-buy so non-US students don't end up with a strip they can't use; buy a local one on arrival instead.

What should I NOT pack for a semester abroad?

Bulky things that are cheap locally — bedding, storage bins, kitchenware, a hair dryer. Buy those on arrival. This pack is the power, carry and arrival gear that's genuinely hard to source in your first jet-lagged week.

Does 'Add all to cart' add everything else?

Yes — all the universal items load in one click to review and edit. The US power strip is single-buy (see above), and insurance is a separate Heymondo quote.
